WEAR TO CARE: FASHION WITH HEART AND RESPONSIBILITY

In a world of fast-paced change and consumerism, the Austrian fashion label Sportalm is launching a special appeal with its "WEAR TO CARE" campaign: it's about consciously enjoying fashion and making a positive impact through small but meaningful choices.

A LEGACY OF LOVE AND HOPE

For Sportalm, social commitment is far more than just a trend – it's a matter of the heart. After the tragic loss of her husband in 2008, CEO Ulli Ehrlich decided to honor his memory in a special way: together with her family, she founded the Alex Mair School in Uganda, which now provides 600 children with a better future. The school offers not only education, but also food and shelter – a place of hope and growth. In spring 2024, Ulli Ehrlich and her sons traveled to Uganda to celebrate the opening of a new kindergarten. This milestone reflects the family's deep commitment to ensuring that even the youngest children have access to safe spaces for learning and growth. "Our trip to Uganda was incredibly moving," says Ehrlich. "Seeing the radiant faces of the children and knowing that we are contributing to their future was unforgettable. It reminds us how important it is to give back."

Sportalm supports the association "Kindern eine Chance" (Give Children a Chance)

The association "Kindern eine Chance" gives children in Uganda the opportunity for education. "We are convinced that we can make a difference." With this vision, Tyroleans Gabi Ziller and Stefan Pleger founded the charitable association "Kindern eine Chance" in 2008. The association supports disadvantaged children in Uganda. In many rural areas of the country, there is insufficient access to educational opportunities. The association now operates 12 primary schools and kindergartens in cooperation with the local population. 2008 was also a year of change for the Ehrlich family. When Ulli Ehrlich's husband and father of their four sons died in an accident, the Alex Mair School in Uganda was founded in his honor and memory. Today, 600 children are housed there and provided with food and education. Thanks to the initiative of the association, over 2000 children are provided with food, education, and in some cases, accommodation.

Charity Project for the Anniversary

Sportalm's 70th-anniversary celebration provided the occasion to expand the school with a kindergarten. The Ehrlich family requested donations for the construction of an attached kindergarten instead of gifts. The guests and Sportalm itself were generous, and so the four sons, Lorenz, Victor, Felix, and Xaver, presented a check worth 55,000 euros to the "Kindern eine Chance" association. When the kindergarten opened in early 2024, Ulli Ehrlich traveled to Uganda with her four sons and daughter Mona. It was an emotional journey that deepened their appreciation for projects like this.

Information about the club

Since 2008, KINDERN EINE CHANCE has been working to improve the living conditions of young people in Uganda. In Central Uganda – in the districts of Mityana, Mubende, Kasanda, Gomba and Mpigi – the association runs thirteen kindergartens, nine primary and three vocational secondary schools, as well as several training workshops and teaching farms. In addition, more than 500 children with disabilities are taught and therapeutically treated in six schools specializing in their needs, and there is also a separate school for deaf children and young people. The association differs from other aid organizations in that all work in Austria is done on a purely voluntary basis, ensuring that every euro donated reaches Uganda. (Source: osgs.at)
